What is your favouirte part of living in this village or community?

What I love most is how everyone here feels like family.  We look out for each other without ever being asked.   Being part of this community makes me feel safe, supported and blessed.

How long have you lived here?

I've been living here since I married my late husband in 2000. I came from a neighbouring village, but this place quickly became home.

How has life changed for you and your family since you started working in the weaving business?

Weaving changed everything for me.  I grew up in a very poor family and barely went to school. l never imagined I'd have a stable income.  Now, weaving has given me dignity, independence, and hope.

What did you do before weaving for One Planet Bags?

I tried everything I could to help myself survive - making jamu from tumeric and herbs, helping on farms during planting season, and cooking for neighbours during ceremonies. It was always hard, unpredictable work.

Is there a family tradition or personal memory connected to weaving?

I began weaving in 2015 when One Planet Bags started.  I still remember sitting with the other women, chatting and weaving together.  It brought me joy and a feeling of connection that I carry with me every day.

How long did it take to master the weaving technique?

Just about two weeks - but if felt like discovering a new part of myself.

What is the most difficult or most satisfying part of weaving?

Combining new colours can be challenging, but the moment I finish a bag and hold the final piece in my hands, I feel so proud.  I always think "I really made this."

Which colour or pattern is your personal favourite?

Plain colours - they're quicker to make, and they keep me calm and focused.

How do you feel knowing the bags used to be plastic waste?

It makes me proud.  We're not just weaving the bags - we're helping the earth, making something beautiful from what would have harmed our environment. It feels good to think we're leaving a better place for our children.

What is one personal dream or goal for your future?

After losing my husband in 2018, weaving has become more than an income - it became therapy.  It gives me strength, purpose, and peace.
